PAREF Southridge School for Boys in Alabang, Muntinlupa City is a private school that offers primary, intermediate, and secondary education for boys

HISTORY

PAREF Southridge School is a private school that offers Basic and Senior High School Education for boys. It was founded in 1979 by the Parents for Education Foundation Inc. (PAREF), a non-profit foundation formed by a group of parents who envisioned a group of schools that would offer values-based teaching of children. Founded in 1976, PAREF would go on to establish schools across the country that would live by the basic educational principle of Parents First, Teachers Second, and Students Last, which implies the primacy of the formation of parents and teachers in order to achieve formation of students. This principle of education is one of the key teachings of St. Josemaria Escriva, founder of Opus Dei, from whom the school’s founding parents got their inspiration.

The first school started by the Foundation is PAREF Woodrose School for Girls, in Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa City, in 1978. One year later, it opened PAREF Southridge School for Boys in Hillsborough Alabang, Cupang, Muntinlupa.

Since its inception, Southridge has maintained an all-male faculty and staff, preserving the tradition of single-gender schooling that Southridge and other PAREF schools are known for.

Today, Southridge is esteemed as a world-class academic institution with fully-equipped academic facilities, a beautiful chapel, a state-of-the-art auditorium and professional-level sports facilities. In the words of renowned columnist Monique Villonco, Southridge is “one of the country’s bastions of classical education.”

Now in its 41st year of forming students and their families, Southridge continues to produce alumni who make remarkable accomplishments in various fields like business, sports, academics, culture, the arts and politics. Southridge graduates attend the top universities in the country. About ninety- percent of our graduates go to UP, ADMU, DLSU, UST and UA&P while the rest go to other universities here or attend prestigious colleges and universities abroad like Harvard, Yale and MIT.

In 1987, Southridge opened its Night School Program, presently called Southridge Afternoon School. It is a high school scholarship program for academically-deserving students from Muntinlupa and other neighboring areas like Paranaque, Las Pinas, Makati, Laguna, and Cavite. Today, Southridge Afternoon School averages 200 scholars each academic year. These scholars attend classes from 10:00 in the morning until 6:30 in the evening. They receive the same, if not more stringent, education as their Day School counterparts. As a separate but contingent part of Southridge, the Afternoon School has its own regular faculty, fully-equipped classrooms and standard facilities. The Southridge Afternoon School Program is recognized as the school’s flagship initiative for its corporate social responsibility, directly giving back to the communities it serves.
